Seasonal Flu Vaccine -
Updated 09/02/2010
This year the seasonal flu vaccine
protects against the three viruses that research suggests
will be most common - influenza A H3N2 virus, an influenza
B virus and the 2009 H1N1 virus that caused so much
illness last season.
Annual influenza vaccination is now
recommended for everyone 6 months and older. It is
especially important to ensure that that people at
increased risk for complication from the flu and their
caregivers and household contacts receive the vaccine.
These groups include include young children, pregnant
women, people with chronic health conditions like
asthma, kidney, diabetes or heart and lung disease and people 65
years and older. Note: Hypertension-only patients are
not in this high rish group for flu vaccination.
We are holding our first flu clinic on
Saturday, September 25th. High risk patients should call 978.465.9770
and ask for extension 210 in order to leave their name
and phone number for a clinic appointment call back. You
may also leave any questions or concerns in the 210
voicemail box.
Alternately, public health and
school-based vaccination clinics will be posted at
http://flu.masspro.org as they are scheduled.
If you are without insurance, check
with your town's local board of health for availability
of free clinics that do not charge an administration
fee.
