Seasonal Flu Vaccine - Updated 09/02/2010

This year the seasonal flu vaccine protects against the three viruses that research suggests will be most common - influenza A H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus and the 2009 H1N1 virus that caused so much illness last season.

Annual influenza vaccination is now recommended for everyone 6 months and older.  It is especially important to ensure that that people at increased risk for complication from the flu and their caregivers and household contacts receive the vaccine.  These groups include include young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions like asthma, kidney, diabetes or heart and lung disease and people 65 years and older. Note: Hypertension-only patients are not in this high risk group for flu vaccination.

As of 12/09/2010, HFP has exhausted our supply of adult flu vaccine for the 2010/11 winter season and will not be getting in any additional adult vaccine.

Alternately, public health and school-based vaccination clinics will be posted at http://flu.masspro.org as they are scheduled.

If you are without insurance, check with your town's local board of health for availability of free clinics that do not charge an administration fee.
